RACER Alice Powell made a good start to her debut GP3 season with an 11th place finish in Barcelona.

The 19-year-old, from Chipping Norton, achieved her finish in race two of the Formula One support series after crashing out in the first.

Following a practice session cut short with a turbo pipe problem, the Status GP driver managed to qualify 18th on the grid for race one.

She made up two places in the first turn but was hit from behind soon after and was sent spinning into the gravel trap.

That forced Powell to start the second race at the back of the grid but she had climbed to 13th after the opening lap.

After losing a tough battle with Kevin Ceccon, who has tested in Formula One, the youngster rose to 11th due to two drivers ahead of her receiving drive-through penalties. The next races are in Monaco on May 27.
