EVESHAM Rowing Club have just completed their first regional junior tennis event.

The LTA Grade 4 event attracted players from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire and the Midlands to the Abbey Road venue.

The event enjoyed some top-class tennis and also some local successes.

Evesham Rowing Club’s Robert Noble reached the final of the u14s and Michael MacLeod went one better by winning the eight years and under event beating Evesham resident Daniel Walker in the final.

Other notable successes included Harry Walduck’s (Wiltshire) double, winning the u14s and u12s events and the Platt twins, Millie and Harry (Warwickshire) won the nine years and under girls’ and boys competitions respectively.

Head coach Andrew Crowther said: “We look forward to building on the success of the event next year.

“In particular the event has highlighted to the local players how good the standard can be.”

Results: Eight and under: Michael MacLeod (ERC) beat Daniel Walker (Pershore) 10-6; nine and under boys Harry Platt (Solihull) bt Jacques Thomas (Solihull) 7-5, 7-3; nine and under girls: Mille Platt (Solihull) bt Lucie Palmer (Pershore) 7-4, 7-3; 10 and under mixed: Daniel Dawes (Worcester) bt Simon Brenchley (Glos) 4-1; 12 and under boys: Harry Walduck (Wiltshire) bt Nathan Snow (Moseley) 4-0, 0-4, 10-8; 14 and under boys: Harry Walduck (Wiltshire) bt Robert Noble (ERC) 4-0, 2-4, 10-5; 18 and under boys: Jordan Shivlock (Staffs) bt Jack Neville (ERC) 4-1, 4-2.
