YOUNG members of Evesham Swimming Club took part in the second round of the Nuneaton Diddy League. Evesham began the gala slowly with some disappointing results in the first 10 events. Things turned around when the girl’s nine-year- old medley team, made up of Yasmin Boff, Holly Bilsborrow, Jasmine Lymn and Lydia Castle, swam a fantastic race and finished in third place. The boy’s nine-year medley team of Harry Bamforth, James Waller, Daniel Boyd and Thomas Perry achieved a second place. Rhiannon Donnahey swam to fourth place in the 50-metre butterfly in 40 minutes three seconds. Evesham’s Chloe Golding had everyone on their feet when she got a first place in the girls’ 11 years backstroke in 39.63.

She will be representing Evesham at next month’s Midland District meets at Coventry, competing against the best swimmers in the region. Boff swam some fantastic races and achieved a first place in not only the backstroke but also the nine-year-old butterfly. She won both races and achieved 19.06 in the butterfly and 20.35 in the back. With the help of Boff, the nine-year-old girls achieved a second place in their freestyle relay.

Again, not to be outdone, the nine-year-old boys managed another second place in their freestyle relay in a time of 1.21.69. With Evesham upping their game, more great swims were achieved. Melissa Humphrey in the girls’ 50m backstroke swam 45.84 and came third, while Owen Leeks recorded a time of 20.51 in the nine-year-old freestyle. Although not bettering his personal best time, Leeks still managed a second place. In the 11-year-old age group, Molly Hardwick swam well and achieved a third place in the breaststroke. Also achieving third placing were both the girls’ and the boys’ 10-year relay teams made up of Caitlin Sharpe, Amber Rees, Melissa Humphrey and Maddie Herbourn. The boys’ team of Leeks, Jack Richardson, Bamforth and Charlie Waites. Waites came in first in his individual events, the 50m backstroke (45.94) and the 25m butterfly in 19.41.
