MORETON Rangers tasted victory over Newent Town twice in three days as they moved out of the relegation zone in the league and progressed in the cup.

On Saturday, the two went head-to-head in the Hellenic League Division One and Moreton came out on top in a six-goal thriller.

Samuel Sherpa-Moore scored twice, adding to goals from Jake Peters and George Coombes.

Moreton had taken the lead but Tyler Weir equalised for the visitors before Kyle Taylor made it 2-1 to Newent in the second-half.

But the game flipped on a red card for Lucas Pepper, with the hosts immediately taking advantage of the extra man. They went on to score two more to seal a rare victory, just their third of the season, that takes them out of the drop zone and into 16th.

And just three days later, the two sides did battle again, but Moreton were only able to take 11 players to Newent for their Marsh (UHL) Supplementary Challenge Cup First Round tie.

And despite being down to 10 men at 2-1 down in the second-half, they turned it around and somehow recorded an incredible 3-2 victory. The goals were scored by Felix Robertson and Jack Fountain.

Moreton go to Shortwood United in the league on Friday night, before two more games next week against Hartpury University (December 5) and Stonehouse Town (December 9).
