THREE local riders will be competing in the 2017 Master of Midshires Grasstrack Racing event next month.

Wickhamford’s Tim Nobes, Offenham’s Scott Cresswell and Littleton’s Dave Meadows are gearing up for the competition at Victory Field, near Ashorne, Warwickshire, on Sunday, July 9.

There will be more than 45 races with practice starting at 10.30am and tapes up for the first race at 12.30pm.

Many of the country’s speedway stars, including Mark Baseby, Steve Boxall, Rob Mear, Ben Barker, Lee Smart, Zach Wajknecht, Tom Perry and James Wright, are in this year’s 500cc solo class.

Among the 30 outstanding 500cc starters are regular grasstrack aces David Howe, Paul Cooper and Ben Millichap who will be looking to make the top step of the podium.

Other classes include 250cc, 350cc and right solos, 500cc sidecars and 1,000cc sidecars.

Jed Collins returns to see whether he can make it a hat-trick in the 250 but will face stiff opposition from David Knowles, Charlie Brooks and Plymouth speedway youngster Henry Atkins.

The day will also include the second round of the super series of 500cc sidecars with 12 crews racing.

Takeaway food, a bar and toilets will be available, along with trackside parking.

Free camping is possible from July 7 with running water on the site.
