A VISITING team triumphed in The Vale Golf Club’s ladies’ Three Ball Alliance Open.

Ross-on-Wye duo Pat Watkins and Hannah Whibley were joined by Ombersley’s April Whetton in carding a winning haul of 75 points.

Vale trio Wendy Towers, Pat Darch and Trish Hulburd, who carded 74 points, finished second.

Lady captain Audrey Sidwell thanked the 114 ladies who took part and supported to the raffle which raised £388 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, Vale quartet Jim Rushworth, Tony Hampson, Rob Sharp and Dave Millard finished third in the club seniors’ Open AM/AM.

Steven Tudor, Gordon Rowe, Paul Ceillam and Rob Yewer from The Robin Hood Golf Club in Solihull won the competition with an outstanding score of 89 points.

Robert Richardson, John Stone, M Patrick and John Gibson from Hagley Golf and Country Club, with 88 points, were the runners-up.

Rushworth, Hampson, Sharp and Millard, with 86 points, finished third.

The competition attracted 136 players from 28 clubs across adjoining counties who were rewarded with Mediterranean climate and a course in excellent condition.

The high standard in the competition was highlighted by 19 of the 34 teams achieving more than 80 points.

Forest of Dean Golf Club’s Paul Foster won nearest the pin and his fellow club member, Michael Price, took the honour for nearest the pin in two on the 18th.

A memorable and well-organised day was enjoyed by all those who took part, many of whom promised to return next year.

The Vale seniors’ captain, Derek Lambert revealed the raffle raised £575 for his nominated charity, Motor Neurone Disease.
