Three people were arrested after armed immigration raids in Evesham.

All three people were arrested for immigration offences, with one also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Raids were carried out at properties in Avon Street, High Street, Common Road and George Street on Monday (November 28).

Police were said to be armed in some of the raids, but not in others.

Two people were arrested at the Common Road address and one person was arrested on the High Street.

No-one was arrested on George Street or Avon Street.Sarah Wells, who works at Headlines Hair Design just over the road from the police raid on the High

Street, said: "I was really shocked to see they (the police) were armed, I don't know why that was.

"I only saw one armed policeman.

"There looked like there was a lot of chasing going on, but I could only see the top of their heads."

West Mercia Police were working in conjunction with national Crime Agency and immigration officers.

The Evesham TODAY Facebook page said: "Traffic was halted on Evesham's High Street this morning, as police stormed the car wash next door to Evesham Railway Station.

"Rush hour traffic was stopped, while armed officers and police dogs raided the car wash at around 8.30 this morning.

"Police officers were later seen examining files in the former petrol station shop."

In Stourbridge, one person was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and drugs offences as part of the same operation.
