A GOOD samaritan needed eight stitches after he was hit in the face with a glass while trying to break up a fight.

The assault happened near the Upton Sports Club, in New Street, Upton-upon-Severn, about 12.20am yesterday.

The victim was having a cigarette outside when he saw two people pushing and shouting at each other in the car park.

He separated them but was hit in the face with a glass and fell onto his knees. The man was hit several more times to his face as he tried to get up.

The 24-year-old suffered cuts and swelling to his left eyelid, and swelling to his right cheekbone and nose.

He was treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he received eight stitches to the cuts above his eye.

A 17-year-old youth was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assault, and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

DC Craig Osborne of Worcester CID said: “The victim sustained serious facial injuries requiring eight stitches, and is lucky not to have been blinded in his left eye.”
