THE former bassist with rock band Blur is scheduled to attend a summer farmers’ market at Kingham, near Chipping Norton.

The event will be held at 11am on Sunday, May 24 at the Kingham Plough restaurant, where Alex James is due to appear in his capacity as a local cheese-producing farmer.

Alex is scheduled to appear with Juliette Harbutt, his colleague in the Evenlode Partnership, who will demonstrate mozzarella making and stage cheese tastings.

The Plough’s chef/proprietor, Emily Watkins, has organised the event, at which about 30 of the restaurant’s food and drink suppliers will display their produce.

There will be brewing and sausage-making demonstrations and a culinary experiment involving using liquid nitrogen to make ice-cream and lollipops, while home-made pork pies, salamis, bacon and ice-creams will be sold from the Plough’s market stall.

There will also be a pig roast, with adult’s portions costing £10 each and children’s £5.

Emily and her four-strong team will demonstrate their skills at the event, which will also feature Hook Norton Brewery’s shire horses, new-born lambs and eight-week old puppies of the Plough’s resident dogs, Monkey and Ooti.

The Plough’s adopted charities, Kingham Primary School and Kingfisher Pre-school, will have a cake stall at the event where a charity raffle will be held in aid of both.

Raffle prizes will include Cotswold beer and a hamper of tasters from each of the market’s stall holders.

Emily was trained by celebrity chef, Heston Blumenthal, at Bray’s Fat Duck.
