A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after a head-on crash between two cars in Bourton-on-the-Water.

The woman, in her 60s, has been flown to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The A429 at Bourton-on-the-Water has been closed after the accident, although police hope to re-open the road in about an hour.

The crash happened at about 1pm today (Friday) and police hope to re-open the road at around 4pm.

Two other people were driven to Gloucester Royal Hospital, whilst the woman was airlifted to Cheltenham General Hospital.

The road is closed between Bourton Industrial Estate and the bottom of Stow Hill at the junction with the A424.

Diversions are in operation and drivers are being advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes if possible.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "A woman in her 60s has been flown by air ambulance to hospital in Oxford after being involved in a head-on collision in Bourton-on-the-Water.

"It happened on the A429 at about 1pm (3 Feb). The woman is said to have serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Police hope to be able to reopen the road in the next hour."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service, said: “We received a call just after 1 o’clock this afternoon, to a attend a collision on the Bourton Industrial Park involving two cars.   

"The air ambulance took one patient to Cheltenham General Hospital and two other patients were taken by ambulance for further treatment to Gloucester Royal Hospital.”
