DANCE hopefuls will put their cha cha cha to the test in Gloucestershire’s own Strictly Star competition.
Sixteen people will take to the dance floor at the Everyman Theatre on September 20 to vie for the Strictly crown and raise money for National Star College.
Among those who taking part are Paralympian Mel Nicholls, a former teaching assistant at Winchcombe Abbey School and celebrity doctor, Dr Dawn Harper.
Organised by National Star College and Jazzjiveswing, it is hoped £50,000 will be raised towards supporting young people with complex disabilities.
Other competitors signed up the competition include National Star principal Kathyrn Rudd, The Cotswold Chef Rob Rees and Paralympic footballer David Clarke.
Wheelchair racer Mel Nicholls, who lives in Tewkesbury, said the toughest thing will be fitting the dancing in between her racing season.
“I used to be a dancer when I was young and would love to dance again, wear sparkles and sequins in pink and orange,” she said.
“It will be an evening to celebrate dancing and greatness in Gloucestershire and great fun for a great cause. I can't wait to dance and have a great night. And do all I can to win.”
