ROTARY RESPONSE TO NEPAL EARTHQUAKE DISASTERS

The 25th Anniversary Dinner of Chipping Campden Rotary Club on the evening of April 25 was overshadowed by the emerging news of the first Nepal earthquake and plans were quickly made to send two Shelter Boxes from charity funds and then have a local appeal to raise more funds.

Rotary in Nepal: News has been received from a Rotary District in Nepal, reporting the devastation in the Kathmandu Valley and around the country. One Rotary Club was holding a fellowship meeting in a hotel at the time of the quake, and the building collapsed, trapping many of the members. Most were rescued but at that time others were still trapped.

Their Disaster Relief Committee was appealing for help with immediate relief. With Government help they plan to build 1000 low cost homes in the rural areas. But, they are asking for short term help from Rotary around the world with shelter, food and safe drinking water.

Chipping Campden Rotary has already sent two Shelter Boxes worth £1200 and the Club is organising a local appeal to provide further aid by dropping leaflets to houses around the town and local villages, requesting donations. Information about various Collection Points is included in the leaflet, so that donors can conveniently leave their contributions at various locations in the town. A collection stall is also being organised outside the Cotswold House Hotel on Saturday May 30 during the Scuttlebrook Wake. All contributions will be gratefully received.

Please send donations to: Rotary Club of Chipping Campden, Claydon House, Station Road, BroadwayWR12 7DE or hand them in at Andrew Greenwood Estate Agents, Sheep Street, Chipping Campden.
