On Thursday, November 4 we met for the first time at The Boathouse in Evesham, home of course of Evesham Rowing Club amongst a number of other users. Members remarked how pleasant and comfortable our new venue is and we all turned up early to inspect the facilities which we found to be excellent. And if nothing else, the selection of biscuits available with our teas and coffees after the meeting was outstanding!

Our privileged speaker this week was Dr Lim Ho of Broadway’s Probus Club, a retired senior Government scientist, who described one of his holidays in China. He led us up the Yangtze River, calling in at an area called Three Gorges, and the site where Taoism originated, a hydro-electric dam where the reservoir was 176 metres deep, as well as seeing a 70 metre high Buddha and a panda research centre. The scenery was amazing but the sheer size of China, with its 56 different ethnic groups, and mind-boggling statistics was almost too much to grasp fully.

Bob Young proposed the vote of thanks, saying the contrasts were almost unbelievable but recognised that we had learned much more about China as a whole. Bob will be surprised to know that next week he and Gary Pugh will be challenged to a swim across the river by George Bourne and other post-meeting drinkers.

Our next meeting at The Boathouse will be on Thursday 11 December, starting at 10am, when our speaker will be Roger Jones on 'Into the Abyss'. Don't forget your cozzie Bob!
