A MAN who failed to show up in court to answer two charges of driving without a licence or insurance in the north Cotswolds handed himself into police following a social media appeal.

Gordon Tegg was due to appear at Warwickshire Magistrates Court in Leamington on Wednesday, November 19 to answer charges of driving without a licence or insurance in Ilmington on Friday, August 22 and Paxford on Thursday, September 25.

But the 50-year-old, who previously lived in Stretton on Fosse, failed to turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Following an appeal in the press and on social media to track him down, he handed himself into police at Leamington Police Station and appeared at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 2 where he was found guilty of both offences.

He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, which was suspended for one year, as well as an electronically tagged curfew forbidding him from leaving his home between 9pm and 4pm for the next three months.

PC Craig Purcell with Warwickshire Police thanked everyone who shared the appeal.

“A lot of police time is spent locating, arresting and transporting people who fail to attend court but the assistance in this case has meant I could focus my attention elsewhere after initial efforts to locate Mr Tegg,” he said.

Tegg was also disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to undergo supervision.
