SHIPSTON’S mayor has praised the efforts of a young man who has won an award for his work in the community.

Paramedic Stuart Eastbury, of The Driftway, Shipston, was given the Anne Sankey award for his services to the community.

The 21-year-old has been a member of the town’s St John Ambulance, a fund-raiser for the Warwickshire and Northampton Air Ambulance, and a co-ordinator for the First Responders in Shipston.

Stuart said he was honoured to receive the award, which is handed out each year by Shipston Town Council.

“I was quite shocked,” he said.

“I’m only 21 – it’s an honour to get it at such a young age.”

Mayor Fay Ivens said it was tough decision to chose between the five candidates, but Stuart just had the edge. She said: “He is quite an incredible ambassador for the young people of Shipston. He is a very nice young man and his parents, I am sure, are extremely proud.”
