Wine seller Peter Creek puts naughty picture of Prince Harry on his bottle labels
12:21pm Tuesday 4th September 2012 in News
THE saucy scandal that saw nude photos of Prince Harry plastered all over the internet is generating big business for an enterprising Cotswolds wine company.
Within hours of the embarrassing incident, which saw the 27-year-old royal caught on camera playing a game of ‘naked billiards’ in his Las Vegas hotel room, Shipston firm Sheldon’s Wine Cellars had dozens of bottles of its new “Royal Blush” wine lining the shelves.
The shop already had the rosé wine in stock and was planning to sell it under its own label. But as news of the scandal broke, manager Peter Creek and his staff went back to the drawing board and knocked out a new label, featuring a quirky cartoon take on the Vegas scene, in double-quick time.
It was launched onto the shelves last Thursday and Mr Creek said customers had not been able to get enough of it.
“Customers seem to love it and it has been flying off the shelves – our rosé sales are up by 200 per cent,” he said.
“We haven’t done anything like this before but we thought this merited a bit of fun and was too good an opportunity to miss.”
It is not known if Prince Harry himself is aware of the unlikely tribute from the Cotswolds.
“We haven’t had any calls from St James’s Palace as yet,” said Mr Creek.
“But I am sure he would take it in good humour and we may well send him a bottle along to try.”
