PUB landlords in the north Cotswolds have topped the table with the police for their assistance in helping to make the World Cup period safe and trouble free.

Before the competition kicked off, the force's North Cotswold Safer Community Team visited all the pubs in the area to offer advice and urge landlords to manage their premises sensibly, especially during and after England games.

Now the competition is kicked into touch for another four years, the team is celebrating their own victory - they received no calls to any licensed premises in relation to alcohol-related disorder during the event.

Sgt Martin Jones, of the North Cotswold team and stationed at Stow, said: "We did have some problems with disorder, especially after England were knocked out by Portugal, but none of it was at any licensed premises, which is a far better result for local landlords than England managed.

"I would like to thank local licensees for the way they ran their establishments during what can be a difficult time for the trade, police and local communities."

During the summer, police in the area have warned that they will continue to target underage drinkers and those who illegally drink in public places.
