RETIRED police officer Steve Whincup is hoping that his new role as village agent to a number of towns and villages in the north Cotswolds will improve the quality of life for local elderly people in need of support.

Steve, a former Cotswolds PC who replaced George Hill as village agent for 15 towns and villages, attended Stow Town Council meeting last week to explain his role.

Afterwards, he said: “It is a service for the elderly mainly but is available to anyone over 50. We help the older, vulnerable members of the community and our aim is to make them feel more secure.

“People who need help with things such as form filling, claiming benefits or practical help around the home can either contact me directly or are referred to me by social services or local GPs,” said Steve, whose part-time post is funded by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire NHS Trust through the county Rural Community Council.
