SHIPSTON High School pupils were challenged to devise a project to improve the image of young people in the community.

The 70 14 and 15-year-olds participated in the Real Context Challenge co-ordinated by Warwickshire County Council’s Warwickshire Education Business Partnership.

It was the brainchild of the council’s Positive about Young People team, working with Warwickshire Police.

Students were challenged to initiate a community scheme to benefit local youngsters and improve the profile of young people.

Students were split into teams that had to consider the marketing and finance needed for their project, along with the scheme’s general impact Each team then had to present their scheme to a ‘Dragon’s Den’ of police officers, who considered its pros and cons.

Students devising a viable proposal had the chance of receiving up to £500, from the Positive about Young People team, to set up the project.

Mark Bolton, operations development manager for Positive About Young People, said: “This is a really exciting project encouraging young people to do something positive in the community, while helping tackle disaffection and youth crime.”
