FIVE bassett hounds from Little Wolford, near Moreton, are off to Britain’s top dog show in March.

Ten-year-old Bosun, five-year-old Bridget, three-year-old Chutney and two-year-olds Dennis and Daphne will compete in the hound competitions at Crufts, to be held at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre from Thursday, March 11 until Sunday, March 14.

They qualified by competing at championship shows throughout the year.

The dogs also competed at Crufts last year, when they achieved two second places, one third, a fourth and a sixth.

They all belong to Little Wolford’s Sue Gilkes who runs a ring craft club at Kingham, near Chipping Norton.

The club, at which dogs are trained for the show ring, meets every Wednesday at Kingham Village Hall where small dogs are trained from 6.30pm and large dogs from 7pm.

Anyone wanting their dog to be trained can simply turn up at the club or telephone Sue on 01608 684734.
