A PUB in Evesham has been forced to close due to a "major" water leak.

The Old Swanne Inne, a Wetherspoons branch on the high street, has closed after a water leak in the pub's basement caused "serious damage" to its electrics.

The pub had officially closed temporarily on September 16 due to the leak and has remained closed since.

National Grid had cut off the supply to the pub, and foul water was pumped out.

A pub spokesperson said it cannot provide a firm reopening date, but it hopes to reopen the weekend of October 14.

It added: "The pub closed on September 16 due to a major leak into the basement where the electrical distribution board is.

"National Grid cut off the supply, and foul water was pumped out.

"There is very serious damage to the distribution board, and this now needs to be relocated.

"We are awaiting national grid timings on this.

"As it stands no firm date of reopening, but we are hoping for the weekend of October 14.

"Although this isn't set in stone, we are trying all we can to open the pub as soon as possible."

Over a year ago, The Old Swanne Inne closed due to flooding in its basement.

The flood in September 2022 had caused electricity to trip.
