Sleepless nights have made life “hell” for a man living above a coffee shop.

Bryce Wilkinson recently moved into a flat directly above Caffe Nero on Chipping Norton High Street.

Mr Wilkinson had expected a bit of noise but did not anticipate that he would be kept awake by late-night deliveries, often arriving between 1am and 5am.

“While I recognised that there might be a little noise from the high street during the day, nothing prepared me for the nightly hell that I’ve been experiencing,” he said.

Mr Wilkinson explained that every night, except Saturday, a third party delivers cakes and pastries to the coffee chain.

The van driver pulls up with the radio “blaring”, opening and “slamming” doors, talking on his mobile, and all the while leaving the engine running.

“There is no escaping the noise," said Mr Wilkinson.

"I wake up every single morning and, depending on the time, getting back to sleep can be impossible.

“I have a constant headache and difficulty concentrating, and it is affecting me at work.

"I now feel anxious about going to sleep each night as I wonder when the disturbance will occur next that evening.”

He added: “I am at my wit's end and am getting little to no sleep each night and I don’t know how much more I can take but my lease is for 12 months, unfortunately, so I’m kind of stuck.

“Despite Caffe Nero being on the doorstep, I now have my coffee and cake at Costa across town.”

Caffe Nero has now apologised for the disturbance and will be looking to change its delivery procedure immediately.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for any stress or disruption deliveries to the store may have caused and we are committed to helping resolve this.

“We have spoken to our supply partners who will adjust the time of the delivery to the evening until a full and permanent solution can be found and all the delivery drivers will ensure they limit the noise they make.

“We will also be changing the store to a three-day per-week delivery pattern to further limit any disruption.”
