An award-winning Cotswold pub has new owners.

The Mousetrap Inn in Bourton has been sold following a restoration.

The mid-19th century Victorian property was purchased by Stephen Davies, who has plenty of experience in the industry but admits he faces a tough challenge, given the current cost of living crisis.

He said: “My partner and I are thrilled to have acquired The Mousetrap Inn and will strive to maintain and enhance its high standards of food, service and accommodation.

“Having spent two decades working on the development side of the hospitality industry, we have always aspired to owning and operating something so special.

“It has taken a long time to find the right business, but the character and history of the Mousetrap had us charmed from the outset.

“Despite the ongoing financial and resourcing pressures, which are felt very sharply by the hospitality sector, we are fully committed to the long-term success of the Inn.”

The inn maintains many original features such as exposed beam ceilings, stonework walls, and open Cotswold stone .

As well as a bar, restaurant and outdoor terrace, the property includes 11 recently renovated en suite rooms.

The inn has also gained a three-diamond rating from the English Tourist Board.

Assistant manager Michelle Beesley added: “As a team, our main priority is working together with the Bourton community, using locally sourced food and products, and making this the favourite haunt of local people as well as tourists.”

The sale has handled by business property advisor Christie & Co.

Nicholas Calfe, director of the firm’s hospitality south team, said: “The Mousetrap Inn represented an excellent turnkey opportunity, having received ongoing investment by the previous owner, Mike Gascoyne, who has done a fantastic job at creating a go-to venue in the heart of the Cotswolds.

“Having sold the venue to Mike back in 2007, it was a delight to bring it to the market on his behalf all these years later and achieve a successful sale.”
