HUNDREDS of people turned out on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate Ilmington's Apple Days event highlighting the village's heritage of small orchards.

The weekend saw the launch of two new Apple Walks created by village schoolchildren, who studied a map dating back to 1922 map to find how many of the village's traditional old, small orchards remain.

The main walk is a mile long, but steep with stiles, so an easy alternative walk on level ground has also been created.

Local curate, Rev Dr Jill Tucker, blessed the walks on Saturday before around 250 people strolled through the orchards. More followed in their footsteps on Sunday.

An Apple Map tapestry created by the local WI some 15 years ago was on display in in St Mary's Church, and visitors were also able to see demonstrations of cider pressing and an apple information stand.

Both days' events were organised by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens.
