A WESTON-sub-Edge man has launched his latest book which remembers the 108 men and women from the area who served in the Great War.

Paul Hughes, who is head of design and technology at Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall, has published From Country Boys to Soldier Boys, which details those from Weston-sub-Edge and Aston-sub-Edge who played their part in the1914 to 1918 conflict. It has more than 220 photographs and includes short biographies. It also includes a section on Norton Hall VAD hospital.

Mr Hughes, whose parents live in Weston-sub-Edge, said the book complimented his first book, Campden 1914-1918, which was published in November 2008.

"I began gathering information the the Campden book around 15 years ago and since it was published have been putting together information for this one. They are both factual accounts of those that took part and includes notes on the people who took part. It has taken a long time and a lot of digging to gather the information and I hope the end result proves a valuable source of information to everyone," he said.

His latest book also includes a photographic gallery of the new Chipping Campden 1914-18 photographs collected by the author following publication of his first book and also tells the stories of the various war memorials in the two villages.

From Country Boys to Soldier Boys was introduced in September at Chipping Campden History Group's meeting at the Old Police Station.

Mr Hughes is now having an official launch at the Hall of Friendship at Weston-sub-Edge on Friday, November 13, from 7pm to 9pm. He will also be giving a talk on how he collated information for the book.
