MUSIC, dance and drama departments at Chipping Norton School had worked tirelessly to present their version of Sweeney Todd: the demon barber of Fleet Street.

Talented students received high acclaim following the play which starred James Hastings and Ellie Jukes as the demon barber and the infamous pie maker Mrs Lovett.

The story focused on Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, returning to London after being rescued from a life of hard labour on a false charge by Anthony Hope. He finds his wife dead and his daughter in the hands of the evil Judge Turpin and Beadle Bamford. He meets his old apprentice, Aldolfo Pirelli, who blackmails him for half of his earnings, in return for the promise that he will not reveal Todd’s true identity. In his anger, Todd goes on a murderous rampage on all London.

The set comprised of a revolving cube with different scenes on each side and the barber shop with the dreaded chair perched on the top, made lovingly by Mr John McCormick and Harry Davis. The razors were made with the school's new 3D Printer.

The show ran for three nights and was a triumphant success and praise was heaped on the actors, orchestra and set.

Before the performances begin, the audience was able to buy pies from Beadles, in Chipping Norton.
