EIGHT talented young chefs from The Cotswold School, in Bourton, went head-to-head in a two-hour cook-off for a chance to go through to the semi-finals of the fourth Rotary Young Chef Competition.
Held at the school, the students impressed the judges led by Shaun Naen, head chef and lecturer at Gloucestershire College.
The young foodies: Sara Augustinowicz, Charlotte Furniss, Lilly Harris, Maisie Laughton, Mason Palmer, Jake Pugsley, Izzy Swallow and Courtney Vowels were allowed to spend up to £15 on ingredients and had two hours to prepare and cook a three-course meal for two. They were judged on planning, budgeting, presentation, use of skills, healthy choice of dishes and taste.
“Standards were impressively high again this year and the range of dishes showed great skill and imagination,” said Bob Hadley from North Cotswolds Rotary Club, who was also one of the judges.
In a close competition the winner was Maisie Laughton, whose three dishes were pigeon and pear salad, pearl barley risotto, and pineapple tart.
The semi-finals will be held at the school in January.
