THE granddaughter of a Moreton man who lost his four-year battle with cancer last year has run Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k in his memory.

Rachael Wilson tackled 10 obstacles and battled thick mud around the course in Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry, which she did in memory of he grandad and former postie, Douglas Howe.

The 80-year-old, who as born and bred in Moreton and lived in Dulverton Place with his late wife Edith, died on April 17, last year.

Miss Wilson, who lives in Coventry and works for Solihull Metropolitan and Borough Council, was joined by her mum Carol, aunt Linda Locker, cousin Hazel Locker and sister Laura for the run on June 28 and even had t-shirts made with their team name, 'Howe to Win'.

"It was good, it was very muddy and wet," said the 26-year-old. "It was really good fun. There were lots of families supporting us and cheering us on and there was music and entertainment at the start.

"It was quite nice we could all do it together and a nice way to remember him.

"Through working as a postman and drinking in the local pubs and attending the legion he has touched the hearts and made many friends of the people in Moreton."

Miss Wilson said so far they had raised £207, an achievement her grandad would have been proud of.

"He would be so proud to think that his daughters and grand-daughters are doing this for him and for all the other millions of people that suffer with this tragic and heartbreaking disease," she added.
