HISTORY lovers visiting Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe will have a unique chance walk in the footsteps of kings and queens when it reopens its doors on Monday.
One of England’s most royally-connected castles, visited by the likes of Henry VIII, Ann Boleyn, Elizabeth I and Charles I, is allowing access to private rooms never opened before to the public.
The additional rooms include the Major’s Dressing Room, the Morning Room, the Sewing Room, and the Clock Tower Staircase, as well as private bedrooms.
These form part of an extended route around the castle, which includes the highly anticipated ‘20 Treasures of Sudeley’ – a collection of artefacts and works of art of great historical importance.
And King Richard III, who owned the castle, will be returning to the Cotswolds in April following news it is just one of seven venues in the UK to host the reconstructed head of the controversial king.
A 3D face replica based on his skull, whose remains were discovered last year 528 years after his death at the Battle of Bosworth, will be on show from April 2 to April 15, offering the public a chance to come face-to face with one of England’s most important historical figures.
