Could you give one of these lovely dogs a new home?

Cotswold Journal: POLLY: A sweet dog looking for a home with no other pets POLLY: A sweet dog looking for a home with no other pets

THE iconic slogan “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas” was created 35 years ago this December but is just as relevant today.

The Dogs Trust in Evesham is bracing itself for an influx of unwanted dogs over the Christmas and new year period.

To help them find new homes here are a few pets already at the shelter which need a new family.

Chris Slight, centre manager at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “Each year, we see dogs being abandoned in and around the Christmas period, as dogs that were bought impulsively, no longer hold any excitement and the commitment wears thin.”

The trust has launched a campaign called Presspaws to spread the idea of pausing to think before getting a dog.

“The vets convinced her owners to hand her into the rehoming centre and she has since found a loving home.”

Here are the dogs which need new homes.

Lucy – three-year-old shitzu.

Lovable Lucy is a sweet girl looking for her forever home. A mischievous little lady, she needs a secure garden as she is a bit of an escape artist. Lucy is a very affectionate, friendly little dog who can live with children over the age of six but would prefer to be the only pet in the home so she can enjoy the limelight.

Fugsey – six-year-old Staffordshire cross (SBT). Handsome Fugsey is a sweetnatured friendly boy looking for patient adult owners who will help him settle in and become part of the family this Christmas. He is a loving boy who responds well to treats and likes to be made a fuss of and will make the perfect pet in the right home.

Elvis – seven-year-old collie cross. This shy boy is looking for love in a new home. He can be nervous, especially around new people so needs a safe place in a quiet, peaceful environment where he can start to build a new life.

Polly – five-year-old collie cross. Polly is a sweet dog who can be a little nervous and finds it hard to trust people at first. She is looking for an adult-only home with no other pets.

Josie – three-year-old Jack Russell terrier. Josie is a bright, friendly dog who likes to be kept busy with walks and playtime. She is looking for a relaxed home with no other pets where she can enjoy pottering about as she pleases. This lovely girl could live with children aged 11 and over.

Coleman – 12-year-old German shepherd cross. Coleman is a big friendly chap who loves nothing more than a good fuss and a cuddle. He is looking for a relaxed home where he can spend time unwinding and enjoying the odd tasty treat Bran – five-year-old terrier cross. Bran is a shy boy who takes time to get to know new people but once he does, he is a very loving and loyal companion. He is looking for a quiet, adult-only home with new owners who have the patience needed to continue Bran’s training and build upon his confidence. He would love any potential new owners to come and visit him at the rehoming centre.

Max – four-year-old lurcher.

Max is a warm hearted chap who absolutely adores human company and being exceptionally bright, Max has soon learnt that barking gets some much wanted attention.

Daphne – 14-year-old border collie cross. Daphne is a shy girl – however, once she gets to know you she is a little sweetie who enjoys a quiet fuss.

Pippa – five-year-old English cocker spaniel. Pippa is currently in temporary foster care as she struggles with kennel life. She is hesitant in meeting new people and other dogs.

Stella – seven-year-old Staffordshire cross (SBT). This gentle girl adores people and loves nothing more than being fussed. She would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

Cass – one-year-old crossbreed.

Fun fanatic Cass is a bright girl looking for a loving adult home where she can enjoy plenty of play time.

She is full of energy.
