A SHAKESPEAREAN tragedy was brought to life at Chipping Norton School when students took part in a special drama workshop.

Year 11 students took part a workshop on Macbeth which was led by the Young Shakespeare Company in the sports hall. Set in Scotland, the play is considered one of Shakespeare’s darkest and most powerful tragedies and is currently being studied by the pupils for their GCSE English Literature. Teacher Clare Summers, of the English department, said: “The workshop was an opportunity to see parts of the play in performance and understand how texts can be interpreted in different ways. The company specialises in making Shakespeare accessible to young audiences and they were highly skilful at engaging the students and developing their understanding of the play.”

Student Monica Schroeder said: “I found it a useful and interesting experience.”
