SHE is known as amazing Grace and the Broadway resident continues to astound as she celebrated her 107th birthday on Monday.

Grace Jones, of Pegasus Court, is the oldest resident in her village and one of the oldest in all of Worcestershire.

Each year she amazes family and friends with her zest for life and secret key to a long life – a daily tot of whisky before bed.

She marked this year’s birthday with a gathering of friends at the Dormy House Hotel, near Broadway, organised by her daughter and sonin- law Deirdre and Patrick McCarthy.

“This year Patrick and Deirdre have organised it for me,” said Mrs Jones. “They said to me you have been doing it all these years and they were going to take over this time. It is a bit of a surprise for me, I don’t know who is coming.”

The Broadway resident, who was born in Liverpool before moving to Derbyshire and then on to Worcestershire, said she was now looking forward to her next birthday.

“I don’t feel any older,” she said. “This year I received my fourth card from the Queen.

You get one at 100, and then each year from your 105th birthday. She looks very nice on it. It arrived this morning.

“I hope to get 108, I feel very well. I can’t really believe I am 107. I am the oldest person in Broadway some say the county or country.

“These people that say we can’t do it, I feel so well. I still have a tot of whisky before bed, my doctor said keep on with that whisky but have some water as well now you’re getting older.”
