Community award for village stalwart

Cotswold Journal: THANKS: Joan Parfitt has won the Broadway Community Award for all her hard work for the village. 45170202. THANKS: Joan Parfitt has won the Broadway Community Award for all her hard work for the village. 45170202.

THIS year’s Broadway Community Award has been presented to a lady who has been at the centre of village life for years.

Joan Parfitt was presented with the award at a parish council meeting last month and said she was “delighted”

to have been chosen as the winner. Her winnings, a cheque for £100, will be donated to Children with Cancer.

The Broadway resident, who organises the village’s entry into the Parish Games each year, said the charity was important to her as her grandson had died from leukaemia five years ago.

“Nobody could be more delighted than I am by receiving this award,” said Mrs Parfitt. “I feel very privileged to live in Broadway so I am very honoured to be recognised for my small efforts in the games. I still have high hopes that Broadway will one year be the top parish in the games. Hopefully this award will raise the publicity for the games and we will then be able to put a team in for every event. Then we will stand a chance.”

Mrs Parfitt has appealed for young table tennis players to come forward to take part in the games.

Mrs Parfitt will also be nominated by the parish council for the Wychavon Bursary scheme.
