DRIZZLE is the word of the week in Worcestershire as the county is set for more showers and cool temperatures.

But the weekend will be warmer and drier as high pressure rolls in to see in the beginning of June.

Ian Michaelwaite, of netweather.tv in Pershore, said the county will escape the flash flooding predicted over the next 48 hours with much of the heavy downpours hitting the east of the country.

"It looks like the bulk of that risk is going to pass us by," he said. "It's not in our area."

However he said the county would not escape rain the rest of the week and today (Wednesday) would feel pretty miserable.

"It's a bit bleak," he said. "It's going to be chilly, maybe scraping into the low teens 11C or 12C. It will be pretty grey, a bit miserable and drizzly with patchy light rain around and lots of cloud. We're unlikely to see many glimpses of the sun at all.

"There's a bit of a breeze coming in from the northerly direction. If you're out in that in a bit of drizzle and exposed to the wind it's going to feel 10C or cooler, not a very nice end of May day."

The weather expert said Thursday would be a similar picture, slightly more breezy with patchy light drizzle and temperatures between 10C and 12C.

"Friday is not looking as wet but there will still be drizzle around possibly throughout the day," he said. "Temperatures will be somewhere between 10C and 12C, you may scrape into low teens later in the afternoon and cloud is going to start thinning. There's a slim possibility of seeing some sunshine."

But he added the weekend would be a lot better and would feel more like summer.

"It will be 20C or 21C on Saturday," he added. "There will be patchy cloud about and plenty of blue skies. The weekend is looking like a good way to say goodbye to May and hi to June.

"Beyond that, it's all looking a bit changeable unfortunately."
