FURTHER to Richard Thomson's excellent letter in the Journal of August 21, would it not be as good idea to earmark some of the county council's windfall from penalty charges for the Abbey Bridge delays – currently estimated at £360,000 – to improving the town centre and, specifically, the deplorable state of some of the paving in the town centre?
