LAST week St Egwin’s School hosted our annual fundraiser for local charities.
The event was delivered by 30 pupils in year eight who are currently completing their community-based ASDAN Youth Challenge Award and generated over £600 for Caring Hand, Evesham: the Cat’s Protection Trust, Wickhamford; and Sue Ryder, Evesham, as part of our way of thanking each organisation for taking Youth Challengers on placement.
The event was tremendous fun, with 14 members of staff offering to face their phobias for charity.
I was delighted that our marvellous mayor gamely volunteered himself as a willing victim when, as he said in his diary piece last week, he partook of the most memorable sandwich ever – Marmite, custard and rice pudding – with his team-mate for the evening, headteacher Mrs Kennedy!
Just for the record, he also failed to mention that as a reward for his efforts on stage, he "danced with a child in a gorilla suit" to several Hairspray hits without batting an eyelid!
What a great sport you are, Mr Goodge, and such a great example of how important it is that none of us forget the need to not take ourselves too seriously when the moment allows!
