A STEAM roller was seen in a busy part of Hereford this evening (Friday).

The vehicle was beeping its horn, with steam billowing in the air.

The roller was in Grandstand Road shortly after 6.10pm, heading towards the Widemarsh Common.

It is believed to be a 1931 Fowler called Patricia B, owned by 'Mason and family' from Hereford.

It is not the first time that a steam engine has been seen in the city's roads in recent weeks. Last month, 'Lady Sarah' was given tests runs in and around the Straight Mile and the B4399 road to Holme Lacy.

It was originally bought by Evan William Howell in 1917 and is now owned by his great-grandchildren Sue and Andrew Howell, who brought it back to Hereford around six or seven years ago.

The engine is based at Warehouse 701, near to Wye Valley Group, which the Howells own.
