End of era for gardening club
5:00pm Monday 28th January 2013 in News
AFTER 50 years, greenfingered folk in Pershore met for the last time as the town’s gardening club held its final event.
The Pershore and District Gardening Club marked the end of an era with a dinner in the town last month.
The club has been forced to close after a number of the organising committee announced they were leaving and not enough people came forward to fill their positions.
At the final official meeting of the club in November, the president, George Featonby, thanked the committee for their hard work in the past and said what a sad occasion it was that after 50 years the club had to close.
Ann Sheppard, treasurer of the club, said: “The Christmas dinner at the Angel Hotel was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
Any remaining funds will be given to the three local primary schools for a gardening project and the balance to Pershore in Bloom. It was agreed the silver cup previously given for competitions would be donated to the Pershore Heritage Centre if they will accept it.”
