ASHTON-under-Hill's Bredon Hill Academy became year eight Worcestershire state school rugby champions in style.

On the way to the final they beat Blessed Edward Oldcorne College from Worcester 40-5, Hanley Castle High School 60-0 and Nunnery Wood High School from Worcester 75-5 to set up a final against Martley's Chantry High School.

Bredon Hill got over initial nerves to play their usual fast-paced, attacking style and build up a 45-0 lead by half-time.

The team, who reached the School Sports Magazine National Cup quarter-finals before losing to finalists Winchester House School, eventually won the county final 85-0.

The boys also got to the Sibford School Sevens final this season, losing to a strong Cheltenham College side.

They are looking forward to the regional sevens final at Northampton Saints on April 27.

Meanwhile, the school's football team reached the Worcestershire Under 13s Cup final before losing 3-1 to a strong St Bede's Middle School team from Redditch.

Bredon Hill went in at half-time 1-0 up in a hard-fought match at Redditch United but St Bedes applied heavy pressure to level with 20 minutes left and then took further chances to claim the trophy.
