NORTH Cotswolds Young Cricketers Club U13 won the Oxfordshire ECB Spirit of Cricket cup finals day at Bicester and North Oxford on Sunday.

In hot conditions, they were drawn first against Aston Rowant and, after asking them to bat, were soon taking wickets.

After their 20 overs, Aston Rowant had posted 76-9 with all the NCYCC bowlers performing well, backed up by some good fielding.

When NCYCC batted they started off briskly with both Samuel Nicholls and Darrel Williams retiring on 30 and 32 respectively to help them reach their target after 10 overs without losing a wicket.

Abingdon Vale were their opponents in the final and NCYCC put them in.

The bowlers again managed good lines and lengths to never let the batsmen settle.

Jack Groves took 4-13 runs off his four overs with Williams taking 3-10 to help dismiss Abingdon for 63.

In reply, NCYCC lost an early wicket but Williams retired on 31, leaving Daniel Erasmus (16 not out) and Samuel Hicks (8no) to see them home with 13 overs to spare.

The team can now look forward to the next round at home to the Buckinghamshire champions in two weeks in their attempt to go on to the regional finals in Devon.
