Worcestershire County Cricket Club has signed fast bowler Sam Greer on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old, originally from Perth, Australia, has impressed during a trial period, taking 17 wickets across all competitions this summer and earning praise for his performances.

Greer said: "It is a pretty surreal feeling to have signed a two-year deal and I actually cannot wait to get stuck in with such a good group of boys."

A standout performance came in a second XI Championship match against Hampshire, where he claimed four wickets in each innings and finished with match figures of 8-75.

Before joining Worcestershire, Greer had a rookie contract with Western Australia.

He made his Worcestershire second XI debut during last year’s 2nd XI Championship and featured in the competition final against Surrey.

He said: "Once I had a chat with the coaches, it was a really easy decision for me to so sign on so I am really grateful for the opportunity.

"I have signed with lots of ambitions, but ultimately, I want to be playing 1st XI cricket and I will put my best foot forward and work hard to get better."

Alan Richardson, Worcestershire men’s head coach, said: "Sam has really impressed us this summer, not just with his contributions for the 2nd XI but also with his hard work and attitude in training in the time he has spent with us.

"He has a great skillset and offers a point of difference with his control, movement and bounce.

"It is another really positive sign for us as a Club that we have the likes of Sam coming through the 2nd XI at a level where he can now join us on a permanent basis."
