Worcestershire’s promotion push has suffered a setback after rain forced a draw in their County Championship clash with Lancashire.

Worcestershire have been held to a frustrating draw in their County Championship match with Lancashire.

Rain washed out two of the four days, limiting the Division Two fixture and denying a chance to push for victory.

Alan Richardson, Worcestershire’s head coach, said: "Obviously, rain was the winner over the last couple of days, but I think in the time that we spent out in the middle with bat and ball, we did really well.

"It’s nice to still have an opportunity to achieve what we want to coming into these last four games.

"We’re going to have to play some really good cricket, both Kent and Northants have had a good year in the red-ball cricket for a reason, so we’re going to have to play really well, but that’s exciting for all the boys and the supporters."

Worcestershire earned 12 points from the match, keeping them in the promotion hunt.

Beyers Swanepoel impressed with four wickets, helping dismiss Lancashire for 180 in their first innings.

Fateh Singh took three for 27, while Jake Libby hit a half-century as Worcestershire reached 263 for seven declared.

With just 32 overs remaining on day four, heavy rain ended hopes of forcing a result.

The Pears remain in contention with four games left.
