A commanding display has reignited hopes of a strong finish to the season for captain Clare Boycott.

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids beat Derbyshire Falcons by 101 runs in the Metro Bank One Day Cup at Denby.

The win was led by Boycott who scored her second century for Worcestershire.

She said: "It was a really important win.

"We just narrowly missed out on finals day for the T20 blast so it was good to bounce back with a big win today.

"I’ve had a few low scores in the last couple of weeks so it’s good to get some runs and contribute to the win.

"I was in the nineties for a while so I was getting a bit nervous but as soon as the helmet comes off it’s just pure relief and I’m really happy to get it over the line."

Boycott formed a 50-run opening stand with Gwen Davies before joining debutant Ella Claridge for a second-wicket partnership of more than 200 runs.

She said: "The pitch was a bit spicy with a bit of uneven bounce.

"But me and Ella rode the wave and came out on top.

"Batting with Ella was really nice.

"She’s really calm and really collected and she kept me going.

"I was getting a bit tired being out there for 40 overs but she just said keep going and get your hundred.

"So it was really nice to bat with Ella especially making a 200 partnership as well."

Worcestershire set the hosts a target of 305 and quickly put Derbyshire under pressure with the ball.

Jess Beach and Amy Maund reduced the hosts to 45-3 after 10 overs putting the Rapids firmly in control.

Boycott said: "I always back Jess and Maundy to take early wickets.

"They swing the ball so much which is what we saw with Jess bowling Shaw out second ball of the innings.

"She then came back with another wicket in the powerplay and it was really good from both of them."

Amy Griffiths impressed through the middle overs taking 4-31 as Derbyshire’s chase fell short despite some resistance from the final wicket.

The 101-run victory brings Worcestershire back into contention for September’s finals day in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Boycott said: "We’d like to get a couple of back-to-back wins which would then put us in contention for the semi-finals.

"It would be really good to end the season hopefully in contention for another finals day."
