Worcestershire County Cricket Club has confirmed that Rob Jones will retire from playing at the end of the 2026 season.

Jones will step away from the sport after three years at New Road.

Since joining the club permanently in 2024, Jones has made 49 appearances across all formats and played a key role in Worcestershire’s Metro Bank One Day Cup triumph in 2025.

Alan Richardson, Worcestershire men’s head coach, said: "During his time at Worcestershire Rob has epitomised what it means to be a hard-working professional and a well-respected teammate.

"His committed attitude was always clear to see and was someone who embodied the values of what it means to be a Worcestershire player.

"These decisions are never easy, but Rob has the full support of everyone at the club for whatever comes next and is welcome back to New Road anytime in the future."

During his time with the Rapids, Jones has registered more than 1,200 runs, including two List A centuries.

One of those was an unbeaten 110 from 108 balls to lead Worcestershire to victory in a vital Metro Bank One Day Cup match against Glamorgan last summer.

He also registered two first-class half-centuries, with a top score of 90 against Nottinghamshire in 2024.

Before joining the Pears, Jones spent seven years at Lancashire, where the batter made 109 appearances in all formats and played a key role in the side’s 2019 County Championship Division Two title victory.

Reflecting on his career, Jones said: "I’m immensely proud of playing 159 games and 11 seasons of professional cricket for both Worcestershire and Lancashire.

"I’ve had some incredible memories with the Pears and with the Red Rose, ones I’ll cherish forever.

"It’s been a pleasure to represent both clubs, and I feel lucky to have met some amazing people, lifelong friends along the way.

"I feel very privileged to have played with the world’s best.

"I can’t thank everyone enough that’s played a part in my career but want to thank my family and my wife Kerry who have been the most supportive people on my journey.

"I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life.

"I wish Worcestershire and Lancashire all the best for the future and thank you for letting me fulfil a dream."
