A young cricketer’s legacy will be celebrated with a special weekend of events.
Worcestershire County Cricket Club will host its second Blue for Bakes Weekend in memory of former player Josh Baker, taking place on Friday, July 31, at New Road.
Named in his honour, the weekend supports the JB33 Foundation, which was established by Josh’s parents, Lisa and Paul, to help grassroots cricket clubs access vital equipment and opportunities for young players.
Paul Baker said "Josh loved cricket.
"He loved being around his teammates and being part of the Worcestershire family.
"To see people coming together again in his memory and celebrating him means a huge amount to us, especially as every penny raised helps the JB33 Foundation continue its amazing work."
Josh, a rising star from the club’s academy, died in May 2024 at the age of 20.
In his memory, the JB33 Foundation has already raised £85,000 and hopes to surpass £100,000 during this year’s Blue for Bakes Weekend.
The weekend will feature a packed schedule at both New Road and the Josh Baker Oval, including family activities, entertainment, and cricket fixtures.
Worcestershire will play Middlesex at New Road on Friday, July 31, and on Sunday, August 2, the Worcestershire Women’s Rapids take on Kent Women at the Josh Baker Oval in Astwood Bank.
Supporters are encouraged to wear blue in Josh’s honour.
Commemorative T-shirts will be on sale at New Road, and players from both teams will wear special blue caps, which will be signed and auctioned after the matches to support the foundation.
Ashley Giles, chief executive officer at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, said: "Josh was a hugely popular member of this club and he's missed by us all every day.
"Last year we had a huge number of people get involved in the event, from players, supporters, staff, volunteers and the wider cricket community.
"And this year looks like it will be no different with everyone getting behind it.
"We're proud that Blue for Bakes Weekend will now become an annual event and we hope as many people as possible will join us across the weekend to remember Josh’s life and join in with the celebrations."
Children’s tickets start from £1 and are available from the Worcestershire County Cricket Club website.
