A clinical display from Worcestershire Women’s Rapids saw them sweep aside Middlesex by nine wickets in one of their strongest performances of the season.
It was a much-needed boost after their previous defeat against Gloucestershire.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first at Bromsgrove, the Rapids made an impressive start. Jess Beach was on fire, taking the crucial wicket of Scarlett Hughes, who was caught behind in the third over.
The pressure continued as Amy Maund bowled out Artemis Downer for a duck, leaving Middlesex struggling at 11-2 during the powerplay.
Beach ended her three-over spell up front with figures of 1-6. The Rapids maintained their grip on the game with tight bowling from Meg Bishop, Caitlin Baker-Smith, and Bryony Gillgrass, keeping Middlesex at bay until they reached 50 runs in the 10th over.
A pivotal moment came in the 14th over when Gillgrass executed a brilliant run-out to dismiss Saskia Horley for 47 runs, swinging the momentum firmly in Worcestershire's favour.
Skipper Clare Boycott then got in on the action, taking a wicket with her very first ball after the run-out, as keeper Liv Gough's sharp work saw the back of Issy Routledge for 30 runs.
The Rapids' fielding was exceptional, resulting in three run-outs overall, and they restricted Middlesex to a total of 110-7.
Chasing 111 runs to win, the Rapids started strong with debutant Madison Windeatt and Gillgrass opening the batting. They built a solid partnership, scoring 70 runs together, which set the foundation for the chase.
Gillgrass was particularly aggressive, smashing two boundaries early on, while Windeatt played a more measured role, scoring 18 runs off 22 balls.
The pair achieved a flawless fifty partnership, the first for any Rapids opening pair this season, with Gillgrass hitting a massive six to celebrate. Windeatt's innings ended when she was caught out after contributing a valuable 21 runs.
Sophie Beech joined Gillgrass at the crease and wasted no time, hitting four boundaries in her first nine balls to race to 20 runs.
Gillgrass continued to shine, reaching her first half-century of the summer in just 30 balls, showcasing her talent with six boundaries.
With more than five overs to spare, Beech sealed the victory with a powerful shot, finishing with a quickfire 30 runs.
The Rapids' emphatic win not only reignited their T20 season but also highlighted their potential as they aim for more success in the competition.
