The Worcestershire Women’s Rapids suffered their second successive defeat in the Vitality T20 Blast.
Playing against Derbyshire Falcons at New Road, the Rapids lost by seven wickets.
The Rapids were forced to bat first after losing the toss. The start of their innings was turbulent.
Elicia Pollard, a newcomer to the team, couldn’t last long on the pitch and was bowled out on her third ball.
Sophie Beech and Bryony Gillgrass tried to stabilise the innings, taking advantage of the poor balls and putting on a promising partnership.
However, the partnership did not last long enough. Beech, who was beginning to look dangerous, was caught on 18 while trying to hit a big shot.
Gillgrass followed suit shortly after, falling for 15.
The responsibility then fell on Sophia Mitchell and Ebony-Jade Tweats to provide some much-needed stability.
The pair did help to rack up some runs, but soon Tweats was caught, and the Rapids were in a sticky situation once again.
By this stage, the Rapids were struggling at 86-5.
The wickets of Meg Bishop, Caitlin Baker-Smith, and Amy Maund, who contributed a total of just six runs collectively, did not help the Rapids' situation.
The Rapids concluded their 20 overs with a score of 109/9, with Jess Beach and Charlotte Roberts remaining unbeaten.
The Rapids had quite a start with the ball.
Jess Beach bowled an in-swinging delivery that uprooted Natasha Allen’s off-stump, taking her out in the first over.
Caitlin Baker-Smith then struck in the next over, sending Fackrell (1) packing.
The Rapids' opening bowlers did well to get Derbyshire in a difficult spot at 6-2.
The Falcons’ Kenvyn and Lonsdale dug the team out of the hole.
A key moment came when Meg Bishop took Lonsdale’s wicket with her first ball; Lonsdale was dismissed for 11, with Sophie Beech holding the catch behind.
At the same time, the Falcons were at 34-3 during the power-play, and the Rapids seemed to be in control.
However, things turned around for Derbyshire.
Duckworth and Kenvyn managed to stabilise the innings, moving the Falcons ahead of the required rate in the 14th over.
The pair managed to build a strong partnership, taking the Falcons ahead.
The Rapids did have some opportunities, with both Duckworth and Kenvyn narrowly escaping being caught out.
However, the pair continued to increase the score.
Duckworth hit three consecutive boundaries in the 17th over to bring up her half-century, before cementing a convincing seven-wicket victory for the Falcons.
