MORETON Rangers kick started their 2022 with a shock 2-0 win over play-off contenders Stratford FC on Monday evening.

The result saw them end a run of five straight league defeats in the Hellenic Division One and sees them pull a few points clear of those sides at the bottom of the table, despite having played more games than most.

Tom Dixon was the man of the moment as his two goals in the first-half were enough to seal win over Stratford, who now sit sixth in the table.

Rangers then held on in the second-half for a morale boosting win that could well spark an upturn in results after what was a massively challenging first-half of the season.

Whilst one Cotswold club enjoyed a positive start to the new year, Cirencester Town Development’s even bigger shock win at top of the table Worcester Raiders meant Bourton Rovers slipped to the bottom of the table.

Their game with Malmesbury Victoria was postponed on Monday due to a waterlogged pitch.

They sit on ten points from their 20 games and are three points away from Abingdon United in 15th.

Cirencester moved a point ahead of Bourton and have played two games less.

And what’s worse for them is that they face Raiders on Saturday, who will be smarting from that surprise defeat to Cirencester.
