HOCKEY LATEST

PERSHORE seconds enjoyed a goal feast in the Midland League, thrashing youthful Worcester sevenths 9-0 in South West Four.

They produced an excellent all-round display but had to wait more than 15 minutes for the opening goal when James Hughes cut in and fired into the top corner.

James Cartwright bagged five goals including reverse stick controlling a pass to wrong-foot the stranded keeper.

Steve Smith got a double with a ferocious short-corner strike among them and Ali Sanderson finished off the scoring.

Pershore sit third but are a long way adrift of the promotion spots.

The firsts fell 3-2 at home to Ludlow in a West Midlands One match delayed by 30 minutes to give the visitors extra time to travel due to flooding.

Chris Perry fired Pershore ahead from a short-corner routine before Ludlow equalised from a similar scenario.

Gareth Rushton made it 2-1 at half-time to the hosts with a penalty flick after a foul. The weather turned and Perry left the field injured but Ludlow lost three players at one point to the sin-bin.

An away penalty flick levelled after Steve Ridsdale blocked an effort on goal and Ludlow won it with only a few minutes left via a deflected effort.
