PERSHORE Town take on one of the meanest defences in English football in pursuit of points to hunt down a promotion place.

Wolverhampton Casuals have shipped just four league goals in 17 West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division outings ahead of the trip to the King George V Playing Fields tonight (7.45).

Half of those came in a 2-0 defeat at Bewdley Town, the Cassies’ only league setback of the season so far, with Worcester Raiders and Wednesfield the only other teams to break through a rearguard that has inspired a flying start.

Pershore head into the clash in decent form themselves with three wins and a draw from their past five clawing Les Jones’s men up to seventh and within nine points of a place in the coveted four promotion places.

The hosts will be buoyed by having scored 14 times during that run, losing only to runaway leaders Shifnal Town while seeing off Wem Town, Shawbury United and Littleton and drawing 2-2 with Raiders.

  • BEWDLEY Town hope to finally host a showpiece Worcestershire Senior Cup tie with Kidderminster Harriers (7.45).

The quarter-final clash has been pushed back a number of times due to persistent waterlogging of the Ribbesford Meadow surface.

The rivals will vie for a spot in the last four of the county's premier knockout competition alongside Alvechurch, Bromsgrove Sporting and Evesham United.
